Subject: Copyright Notice
That only applies to films after March 1, 1989. From Jan 1, 1978 to Feb 28, 1989 they had to have a correct notice. If not it must be registered within 5 years and they have to make a reasonable effort to correct the notice on all copies distributed.
Here is the link to the document on Copyright Notice from the copyright office. It is on page 5.
If they didn't take those steps then 5 years after release it falls into the public domain according to copyright office document.

Subject: PD Confusion
I'm not understanding how this could be in the Public Domain. The Copyright Act says:

Newer works, created after January 1, 1978, which were previously protected for the life of the author plus 50-years, are now are protected for the life of the author plus 70 years -- with no renewal term. Copyright in works created by two or more authors, now expires 70 years after the death of the last surviving author. And, if the work is a work for hire, or anonymous or pseudonymous, the term of protection is the shorter of 95 years from first publication, or 120 years from the date of creation. Consequently, no post-1978 works are scheduled to fall into the public domain until the middle of the 21st Century.

So wouldn't this have been automatically renewed anyway? Or am I misreading this?

Gone with the Wind it ain't. It's a cheaply made fantasy/adventure romp that doesn't take itself too seriously, as evidenced by the sound effects that fall somewhere between The Three Stooges and a Kung Fu flick. You'll have no trouble telling the good guys from the bad guys in this simple morality tale.

The script is a bit silly but the acting isn't all that bad. The fight and action scenes are choreographed with a sense of humor and well executed for what they are.

It's a fun little movie and I had nothing better to do anyway.

I just love how you signed your post, skybandit.

It's so true.

BTW, decent low budget fantasy flick.

This is the first movie produced for the cable network Showtime. It certainly didn't bankrupt them.

....with a hangover from the night before. Good lord! was that guy from the original battlestar galactica? I'm sure I've seen that thief at Trade, London.

The worse one was Revenge of the Virgins on this very site, but this one is climbing right on up the ranks of the rank. How I managed to watch it all i don't know, but i am always in complete amazement when movie makers think by the girl always cussing out the bad guys who rape pillage and plunder they will suddenly see things her way.. Anyone remember the King kong flick with ..oh who was that dizzy broad anyway? calling him a male chauvinist pig? Now that was a classic head scratcher.
Why didn't we just have Eleanor Roosevelt just tell Hitler, "Why don't you just go to hell?....male chauvinist pig!" WWII would have ended much sooner.

Hokey, but fun to watch. Silly, but worth the few minutes I wasted on it. A break from the real world. And, if I were to become a prisoner of a lost universe, I think Kay would keep me happy. A great drive-in type movie.

Subject: Richard Hack is more like it...
Oy! From the makers of "Hawk the Slayer" comes yet another "fantasy" movie written by someone who played Dungeons and Dragons twice.
All the standard characters are here: a green-skinned elf with magic powers, a cave-man giant, a techno-wizard, an evil warlord, a gay hobbit thief, and...an electrician?
El retardo maximo!
